Visits “beyond the workshops”

Fun and original visits through Croix-Rousse

Jirôme or the revolt of a canut

Story-telling tour of the Croix Rousse

Jirôme is a canut (silk weaver) of the Croix-Rousse. On the morning of the first revolt, in 1831, while his comrades decided to strike, Jirôme was forced to brave the barricades and the national guard to deliver his last order: his family needed money.
He will have to, helped by his apprentice Tony, descend the hill through the traboules and carry a roll of silk to the sponsor, Monsieur Montessuy. Will they escape both the National Guard and the strikers?

This visit takes you through numerous traboules going down the slopes of Croix-Rousse. We follow a hero who will meet figures from the neighborhood, such as the founder of the first workers' newspaper 'L'Écho de la factory'.

The story places one of the first workers' strikes in Europe in context, starting from the daily life experienced by the Canuts at the beginning of the 19th century. The following subjects are covered during the visit: architecture, daily life of the Canuts, historical facts of the revolt of 1831, social advances put in place by the Canuts.

This narrated tour offered by Cybèle can begin at the Soierie Vivante weaving workshop, for a dive into the heart of the daily life of the 19th century canuts.

Weave and go !

Visit to the weaving workshop and traboules

The bistanclac-pan sounds, the shuttle comes and goes, the weft thread and the warp thread cross to shape the famous Lyon silk. After discovering the weaving workshop of the Soierie Vivante association, your family of canuts will have to take their silky production down to the bottom of the hill. But be careful, the path is strewn with pitfalls!

After an educational tour of the weaving workshop, with its kitchen and loft, children are invited to discover the world of canuts (through the book “Claudine de Lyon” for classes who have read it).

A booklet is distributed to all children. Ludilyon's guide invites the group to descend the slopes of Croix-Rousse to Place des Terreaux, with objects from the life of the canuts, silk weavers from Lyon, as support.
